Title-chasing Lamborghini Factory Driver Sandy Mitchell heads to Indianapolis for penultimate IMSA round with PFAFF Motorsports

Lamborghini factory driver Sandy Mitchell returns to action this weekend when he heads to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the “Battle on the Bricks”, the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Following back-to-back GTD Pro wins — which have catapulted 26-year-old Mitchell from Forfar, and his team-mate, fellow Lamborghini factory driver Andrea Caldarelli into third place in the title fight — the duo will again pilot their No9 Lithia & Driveway Lamborghini Temerario GT3 prepared by top Canadian team Pfaff Motorsports.

“We’ve certainly had the Temerario dialled-in in the last two races, and those back-to-back wins have eased us into contention for the championship,” explained Mitchell, personally backed by Tunnocks and Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila. “But we’re simply focusing on delivering the best performance and result we can get this weekend. Considering this is an all-new car for 2026, everyone in the team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get the Temerario to where it is now and we head to Indianapolis confident we’ll be racing at the sharp end again.”

This will be Mitchell’s first time racing at America’s iconic Indianapolis circuit. The 2.4-mile, 14-turn road course weaves through the inside of the famous 2.5-mile high-speed oval and includes the main front straight and Turns 1 and 2 before heading infield.

“It’s going to be immense pushing the Temerario GT3 through the banked turns and down the famous start-finish straight,” Mitchell continued. “Unlike the oval racing which runs the track anti-clockwise, we race clockwise. The circuit’s configuration should suit the Lamborghini and it offers up a number of overtaking opportunities. We’ve got a 44-car grid, so things are going to get busy pretty early on. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The action gets underway on Friday with the opening 90-minute Free Practice session followed by FP2 and qualifying on Saturday. The 160-minute race gets underway at 3.10pm local (8.10pm UK) on Sunday, September 20. You can watch the race live on the official IMSA You Tube channel.
