SANDY MITCHELL… NEEDS. YOUR. VOTE.

November 14, 2024

Sandy Mitchell has been shortlisted for the coveted Motorsport News ‘National Driver of the Year’ Award; and he would be grateful for your vote. Sandy, the 24-year-old from Forfar and who has already been named as the No1 British GT Championship Driver for 2024 by the title, is the only Scot in the 10 leading UK drivers nominated for the National Award. You can vote for Sandy HERE.

“It’s fantastic to have been named the top British GT3 driver in the British GT Championship by the team at Motorsport News,” Lamborghini factory driver Sandy stated. “It’s a real honour and a great acknowledgement of the performances I’ve delivered throughout the season. “To be named National Driver of the Year would be a terrific achievement, so I would be grateful if you could possibly please find the time to vote for me online.”

Sandy missed out on winning his second British GT title this year, in partnership with team-mate Alex Martin in their No 78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2, prepared by Barwell Motorsport, by just five points. Personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and Tunnocks, Sandy was the standout driver in British GT, winning more races than any rival and bagging four maximum point-finishes. In addition to his three race wins — at Oulton Park, Donington and Snetterton — he also bagged maximum points at the season finale at Brands Hatch.

In a dazzling season Mitchell, the 2020 British GT Champion, also set new GT3 qualifying lap records at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, plus bagged pole position at Oulton, Donington and Snetterton. At the latter, he also posted the fastest lap in both races. Motorsport News journalists acknowledged Sandy’s performances this season, the first article naming him as the leading GT3 Driver in the British GT:

TOP 5 GT3 DRIVERS:
1. Sandy Mitchell
The 24-year-old, on the evidence of this 2024 campaign, has grown into a class-leading GT3 driver. Utterly at one with his Lamborghini, and forming a close and fruitful partnership with Am Alex Martin. Mitchell was fast, imperious, error-free and strong in battle when he needed to be, not least in his late-race pass to win at Donington Park.

The second article below covers Sandy’s achievements in the Top 10 drivers nominated for the Motorsport News Driver of the Year:

Sandy Mitchell, British GT Championship:
Partnering with Alex Martin in a Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini, the 2020 British GT champion was right in the heart of the battle for this season’s contest and narrowly missed out, despite taking top points in the final showdown at Brands Hatch.
The 24-year-old Lamborghini factory driver raced amid the Pro ranks and was among the fastest at every round. He combined his commitments in the UK along with outings in America and in the GT World Challenge to prove his skills are in demand.
The Scotsman has a bright future in GT racing and is destined to reach the top.

“It’s really special to have been nominated for the Motorsport News National Driver of the Year,” Sandy said. “There are nine other leading drivers shortlisted, so the competition’s going to be tough. The award is decided by public vote, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed I’ve got enough support to help me take the chequered flag again this season.”

Voting is open until November 29, 2024.
