Euro GT3: Monza with Dama Fortuna and Barwell
Lamborghini Factory Driver, Scot Sandy Mitchell, targeting ‘Home’ Euro GT3 victory with Dama Fortuna and Barwell.
Sandy Mitchell, heads to Italy this weekend (Sept 21/22) to tackle the final three-hour race in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup at the iconic Monza circuit. And the 24-year-old from Forfar is determined to end the campaign with back-to-back podiums in the ultra-competitive Bronze Cup class.
Sandy will again be partnered by team-mates, American-based Englishman Till Bechtolsheimer and Frenchman Antoine Doquin, in the No 78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2, prepared by Barwell Motorsport and backed by Dama Fortuna Tequila. The 52-car grid will include nine manufacturers.
“Last time out at the Nurburgring everyone delivered their best performance of the season so far when we finished third in class,” Sandy, personally backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and Tunnocks, said. “That’s the minimum we want to achieve this weekend.
“Obviously it would be fantastic to win at Monza, the iconic Temple of Speed, in a Lamborghini, and that’s what everyone is focused on achieving this weekend.”
Sandy, the 2020 British GT champion, has good memories of the ultra-fast 3.6-mile, 11-turn Monza circuit, which hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix.
“I raced at Monza last year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My pace was really good in the PRO class, so I’m looking forward to getting back on-track, this year with Barwell,” he continued. I know the Barwell boys also enjoy Monza. They won the Pro-Am class at the circuit in 2023, so hopefully we can repeat that success in the Bronze Cup. Till and Antoine were right on the pace at the Nurburgring last time out, and I know they’re equally fired-up to deliver a strong performance this weekend. That, allied to the fact we know the Lamborghini is super-quick at Monza, plus the strength in race strategy the Barwell crew has, should combine to ensure we deliver the final result we all want in the Endurance Cup.”
