Rolex 24 at Daytona

January 18, 2024

Scot Sandy Mitchell returns to America’s Blue Riband race, the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Lamborghini and Forte Racing.

Lamborghini factory driver and former British GT champ, Sandy, will get his 2024 season underway when he makes his return to America’s Blue Riband 24-hour race, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. And the build-up starts this weekend. The 23-year-old from Forfar will join the Forte Racing team to drive the No78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 (pictured) partnering fellow factory driver, Italian Loris Spinelli, and Canadians Misha Goikhberg and Devlin DeFrancesco.

The foursome will compete in the highly-competitive GT Daytona (GTD) class. The 24-hour race is the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. For Sandy, personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky, it will be his second assault on the Daytona 24h having made his debut in 2022. It will also be his first time racing with Los Angeles-based Forte Racing.

Sandyt is itching to get back into action on the iconic and daunting high-speed 3.56-mile Daytona 24 circuit — which includes an infield road section allied to the high-speed banking of the oval — at the famous International Speedway.

Sandy: “I’m super excited to be joining Forte Racing for Daytona,” Sandy, the 2020 British GT champ and who has already recorded two Spa 24-Hours class wins, stated. I’ve competed in this amazing race once before, and I’m thrilled to be back on the grid as the atmosphere and on-track action are equally impressive during race weekend. I feel we have a great driver line-up, and from keeping an eye on the team’s progress last season I think our overall package will be very strong. I’ve already met my teammates and crew, and we’re all working really hard towards producing a strong result come race day.”

Before Sandy starts the race on Saturday, January 27, this weekend (Jan 19-21) het will have time to acquaint himself further with his new team, car and circuit in the traditional three-day Roar Before the Rolex 24 testing and qualifying.
