Nurburgring: Euro GT3
Lamborghini Factory Driver Scot, Sandy Mitchell, heads to Nurburgring targeting another Euro GT3 podium.
Sandy returns to action this weekend (Aug 30-31) when he tackles the latest round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Pro Cup at the Nurburgring. The 25-year-old from Forfar will again partner fellow Lamborghini factory drivers, Italian Marco Mapelli and Frenchman Franck Perera in the No163 Lamborghini Huracan EVO2 GT3 prepared by top Italian team Vincenzo Sospiri Racing. And for Mitchell, it’s a return to the iconic German circuit where last year he finished on the podium.
“We finished third in the Bronze Cup in 2024, but it’s a significant step up to battle in Pro Cup against all the top drivers,” stated Sandy, personally-backed by Tunnocks and Dama Fortuna Tequila. “But we’ve got progressively quicker through the season, so we’re feeling confident heading to Germany.”
Such has been the Scot’s pace in the #163 VSR Lamborghini that he twice led the Pro field in the Spa 24Hrs before the car suffered an unfortunate technical problem.
“We definitely showed at Spa that the team has a super-quick car,” he continued, “so we’re taking that knowledge and positivity into the three-hour race at the Nurburgring. Traditionally the Nurburgring has been a happy hunting ground for Lamborghini, so we’re all fired-up for the weekend.”
A record 61 cars and 10 manufacturers will line up for the race which takes place on the 3.16-mile GP layout at the track which sits in the Eifel Mountains. Following Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying on Saturday, Qualifying takes place on Sunday at 9am (local time) with the race starting at 3pm (all times one hour ahead of UK).
