IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship
Lamborghini Factory Driver, Scot Sandy Mitchell, heads to New York for IMSA’s Six Hours of the Glen with PFAFF Motorsports.
Sandy will make a one-off appearance in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend (June 20/22) when he tackles the six-hour race at Watkins Glen in upstate New York. The 25-year-old from Forfar will partner fellow Lamborghini factory driver, Italian Andrea Caldarelli, in the No9 Lithia and Driveway-sponsored Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2. Sandy is replacing regular driver Marco Mapelli, another Lambo factory driver, who has a clash of race dates.
Sandy will be making his first appearance for Toronto-based Pfaff Motorsports and is looking forward to returning to the 3.37-mile high-speed circuit which previously hosted the US F1 Grand Prix. Six years ago, as a 19-year-old, Sandy bagged two podium finishes in Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo North America series at the circuit. Now he’s looking forward to returning to compete in the top-level GTD Pro class.
Sandy: “It’s fantastic to be joining Pfaff Motorsports for the Six Hours of the Glen,” stated Sandy, the former British GT champion and who heads to the States fresh from a top-six finish in the latest round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Pro Cup at Monza. “I love racing in IMSA and I’m super excited to be partnering up with Andrea for this event. Watkins Glen is a track I really enjoyed when racing in the US in the Super Trofeo North America,” the Scot, personally-backed by Tunnocks, continued. “It’s great to be back, this time for the main event and pushing for a top result with the team.”
And as Sandy heads into the six-hour race with Pfaff Motorsports, team manager Steve Bortolotti is directly focused on delivering a strong performance. “We’re really excited to welcome Sandy to the team for Watkins Glen,” Bortolotti said. “He’s proven himself in GT racing and has a strong track record with Lamborghini, so we know he’ll slot in well with our program. IMSA is ultra-competitive, especially at a place like The Glen, so having someone with Sandy’s experience and calm under pressure is a big boost for us. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Practice for the Six Hours of the Glen takes place on Friday and Saturday, ahead of a 90-minute qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. The race gets underway at 12.10pm local time (5.10pm UK) on Sunday, June 22.
