IMSA: Laguna Seca

April 30, 2026

Lamborghini Factory Driver Sandy Mitchell returns to IMSA action at Laguna Seca with Temerario GT3 and PFAFF Motorsports.

Lamborghini factory driver Sandy returns to action in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend (May 2/3) when he heads to California and the iconic Laguna Seca circuit. Sandy, the 26-year-old from Forfar, will partner fellow Lamborghini factory driver, Italian Andrea Caldarelli, in the No9 Lithia & Driveway Temerario GT3 prepared by top Canadian team, Pfaff Motorsports on the 34-car grid for the 2hr 40min race.

Fresh from a storming performance in the last round at Sebring in Florida, when he gave the all-new  Lamborghini Temerario GT3 its global racing debut, Sandy will be returning to race at daunting 2.23-mile, 11-turn circuit in Monterey for the first time since 2019.

“I finished on the podium twice in the two Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American Championship races I contested in 2019 at Laguna Seca, so hopefully we can deliver a similar result again again this weekend in the ultra-competitive GTD Pro class,” the former British GT champ said. “Laguna Seca is a track I grew up playing on the PlayStation when I was a little kid. It’s an iconic circuit with some amazing corners, especially the famous Corkscrew. It’s going to be stunning racing GT3 cars nose-to-tail through there.”

Sandy heads into the weekend fresh from an intensive test session with the Temerario GT3 and the Pfaff Motorsports team at the Californian circuit. And the Scot, personally-backed by Tunnocks and Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila, is looking to build on the race car’s strong debut outing at Sebring. “Given it was the car’s first competitive outing, to complete the whole 12-hours at Sebring without any problems, on what is notoriously the bumpiest circuit in the States, and finish in the top 10 was fantastic for the whole team,” he continued. “Since then we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to generate more pace and we head into this weekend confident we’ll be fighting at the sharp end for a podium finish.”

Qualifying for the race takes place on Saturday, May 2, ahead of the race which starts at 1.10pm local (9.10pm UK) on Sunday, May 3. You can watch the race live on the IMSA Official YouTube channel.
