GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup: Brands Hatch
Lamborghini Factory Driver, Scot Sandy, Fired-up for Euro GT3 Pro Sprint opener at Brand Hatch with Barwell and Dama Fortuna Tequila. TEQUILA
Sandy begins his GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup campaign at Brands Hatch this weekend (May 3/4) in the ultra-competitive 30-car PRO category. The 25-year-old from Forfar will contest the two 60-minute races in his No78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2, prepared by Barwell and backed by Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila. Sandy will be partnered by 20-year-old Englishman Hugo Cook for the first time.
Sandy, the 2020 British GT champ, explained. “Though it’ll be my first time racing with Hugo, we’ve already worked together as he’s competing in the sister Barwell Lamborghini in the British GT Championship,” Sandy, the 2020 British GT champ, explained.I know he has a huge amount of potential and he’s hungry to learn, so I have no doubt we’ll be a strong pairing, further fuelled by the strength in-depth of Barwell and Lamborghini.”
Sandy is fully aware of how potent that blend is. Last September he shattered the British GT qualifying lap record at the Kent circuit in his GT3 Barwell Lambo, lapping the 2.43-mile Grand Prix circuit in 1min 22.196secs to carve 0.711secs off the previous best which had been set in 2016.
Sandy: “Brands Hatch is a fast, flowing circuit which I like and which I know the Lamborghini is well suited to,” the Scot, personally-backed by Dama Fortuna Tequila and Tunnocks, continued. “This may be the first time Barwell has ever competed in the PRO category in the Sprint Cup, but we’re all confident we’ll be battling at the sharp end of the grid. We’re a combination which knows how to win races and championships, and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again in 2025.”
Sandy is first in action for two one-hour practice sessions on Saturday ahead of qualifying. The two 60-minute races take place on Sunday with the first starting at 11am followed by the final race at 3.45pm.
