Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Bronze Cup: Hockenheim
LAMBORGHINI FACTORY DRIVER, SCOT SANDY, HEADS TO HOCKENHEIM EYEING EURO VICTORY WITH COLLARD AND BARWELL
Sandy, returns to action this weekend (July 20/21) when he tackles the latest double-header in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Bronze Cup at Hockenheim in Germany. Fresh from a dominant performance in the British GT Championship at Snetterton, where he was the fastest driver over the weekend bagging a pole, fastest race lap and victory, the 24-year-old from Forfar will again partner Rob Collard in their No78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 prepared by Barwell Motorsport and backed by Dama Fortuna Tequila.
“This will be my first time racing at Hockenheim, so I’m really looking forward to the weekend,” Sandy, who won the 2020 British GT title in partnership with Collard, explained. “It’s a demanding circuit with fast-flowing sections allied to a few tight corners, both of which will offer up great overtaking opportunities. I’m confident the Lamborghini will suit the circuit and the two 60-minute races well, so we’re looking forward to racing at the sharp-end again.”
Team-mates Sandy and Collard head to the 2.84-mile circuit deep in the forests of the Rhine Valley determined to build on the performance they delivered in the opening double-header at Misano. “I’m confident we would have won the the second race in Italy if we hadn’t had the small technical issue during our pitstop,” Sandy, personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and Tunnocks, continued. “Rob had already moved us up into second place and I knew I had the pace to win when I got into the car. But the wee glitch scuppered our chances. We know we have the pace to push it at the front, and the Barwell crew are brilliant at pitstops and preparing the car, so we need to make sure we deliver this weekend and get back on the top step of the podium.”
