Lamborghini Factory Driver Sandy, heads to Paul Ricard to start European Campaign with Barwell and Black Bull.
Former British GT champion Sandy, heads to Paul Ricard in Southern France this weekend (April 6-7) for the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe. The 24-year-old from Forfar, fresh from a win and podium finish in the opening double-header of the British GT Championship at Oulton Park, will again pilot his No78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 prepared by Barwell Motorsport.
Sandy will tackle Sunday’s three-hour Endurance Cup race with two new team-mates, American-based Englishman Till Bechtolsheimer and Frenchman Antoine Doquin.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Paul Ricard this weekend, and it will be great to go racing for the first time with Till and Antione,” Sandy, personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and Tunnocks, and whose Lamborghini will be backed by Dama Fortuna Tequila, said. “We’ve already tested together at Paul Ricard and Silverstone. Both guys have extensive experience of competing, winning and grabbing podium places behind the wheel of a GT3 car, so I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
The capacity 55-car grid which will start the three-hour race features the world’s leading GT3 drivers and includes entries from nine manufacturers including Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, McLaren and Mercedes. Sandy’s #78 Lamborghini will contest the fiercely competitive Bronze Cup class which will be fought over by 20 cars within the 55-car grid. And the Scot, who finished on the Pro-Am podium in the 2020 six-hour race at the French circuit, is looking forward to returning to Paul Ricard.
“It will be fantastic to be back racing at Paul Ricard,” Sandy confirmed. “The Lamborghini is perfectly suited to the fast, sweeping nature of the 3.5-mile circuit, and I know the whole team, plus Till, Antione and I will be doing everything we can to start the season with at least a podium finish.”
