Sandy targets strong finish in Euro GT3 Endurance Pro Finale in Barcelona with VSR

Lamborghini factory driver Sandy returns to GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Pro Cup action this weekend (Oct 11/12) when he tackles the three-hour season finale at the Circuit de Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcelona. The 25-year-old from Forfar, fresh from his dominant win in the final round of the British GT Championship at Donington Park, will drive the No163 Lamborghini Huracan EVO2 GT3 prepared by top Italian team Vincenzo Sospiri Racing. Mitchell will partner fellow Lamborghini factory drivers, Frenchman Franck Perera and Italian Loris Spinelli. The latter stands in for Italian Marco Mapelli who sits out due to a clash of dates.

“I’m looking forward to returning to race in Barcelona,” stated Sandy, who won last time out with VSR in the penultimate round of the Italian GT Sprint Championship at Imola, “ and it will be great to team-up with Franck and Loris. “Barcelona is a track I’ve raced at previously. It’s one that I enjoy and I know suits the Lamborghini. We’ve shown this season that we have lots of pace in the Endurance Cup, but haven’t had the good fortune to get the results we probably deserved. Everyone in the team is certainly aiming for a strong finish to the season in the Pro class this weekend,” Sandy, personally-backed by Tunnocks and Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila, concluded.

A total of 60 cars, the largest GT World Challenge grid ever assembled at the 2.9-mile, 16-turn track which previously hosted the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, will line up for Sunday’s race.

The action gets underway at 9am (local) on Saturday with a two-hour Free Practice session, followed by a 60-minute Pre-Qualifying at 2.35pm. A one-hour Qualifying session opens proceedings on Sunday at 10.25am, with the three-hour race starting at 3pm (all times one-hour ahead of UK).
