British GT Championship: Donington Park

Lamborghini Factory Driver and former champ Sandy, returns to the British GT championship determined to win season finale with Barwell.

Sandy returns to the British GT Championship this weekend (Oct 4/5) for the season finale at Donington Park. And the Lamborghini factory driver, fresh from a dominant pole position and maiden win in the Italian Sprint Cup four days ago at Imola, is targeting another victory.

Sandy, the 25-year-old from Forfar, will have only contested four of the seven British GT weekends, but he will again reunite with team-mate Alex Martin in the No 78 Lamborghini Huracan Evo2 GT3, prepared by Barwell Motorsport.

“It’s always great to get back to British GT,” the 2020 champion, personally-backed by Tunnocks and Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila, stated, “and I’m really looking forward to the final two-hour race of the season. We proved earlier this season that we have the car and pace to be competitive, so now we’re all determined to go that one step further and win this weekend.”

In the season-opening two-hour race at the 2.48-mile Leicestershire circuit, Sandy was the fastest man on track setting the quickest lap of the race and hounding the rear bumper of the eventual winning Mercedes for 50-minutes.

“I threw everything I could at the Mercedes, but just could never get close enough to make the overtake,” he explained. “This weekend three of the leading cars have significant success time penalties which they need to serve at their pitstop. We’re penalty-free so that should be an advantage. The Lamborghini always goes well at Donington and the Barwell crew are brilliant when it comes to race strategy and pitstops. Alex has been also been quick all year to we’re all determined to finish the season on the top step of the podium.”
